🚿 Can Microcement Be Used in Showers?

Yes. Microcement can be used on shower walls and shower floors when it is installed as a complete waterproof system.

The surface must be stable, properly prepared, and protected from moisture before the decorative microcement layers are applied. Depending on the project, the installation may include a waterproof membrane, primer, fiberglass mesh, reinforcing base coats, finish coats, and a professional protective sealer.

The final protective coating is especially important in showers because it helps prevent water, soap, and cleaning products from penetrating the decorative surface.

Microcement itself should not be treated as a substitute for proper waterproofing behind the finish. The waterproofing system and the decorative coating must work together.

💧 Is Microcement Waterproof?

A properly installed and sealed microcement system can provide a highly water-resistant surface suitable for bathrooms, showers, kitchens, and other areas exposed to moisture.

However, the finished system is only as reliable as the surface preparation, waterproofing, application, and sealer used during installation.

Microcement should always be protected with the appropriate professional sealer. In wet areas, additional waterproofing beneath the microcement may also be required.

For this reason, microcement should be viewed as a complete system rather than a single decorative coating.

Yes. In many cases, microcement can be applied directly over existing ceramic or porcelain tile without removing the tile.

Unlike thick concrete slabs, microcement is applied in thin decorative layers. It can therefore create the appearance of concrete on existing walls, floors, tile, and other properly prepared surfaces.

Microcement is designed to create a strong and durable decorative surface, but it cannot stop structural movement underneath it.

Cracking may occur if the substrate is unstable, incorrectly prepared, already cracked, flexible, or subject to excessive movement.

Proper surface preparation, repair of existing cracks, reinforcement with fiberglass mesh, correct application thickness, drying time, and professional sealing all help reduce the risk of cracking.

Microcement should never be applied over a weak or moving surface without correcting the underlying problem first.

🧼 How Do You Clean Microcement?

Microcement surfaces should normally be cleaned with water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.
